The WC-Co based cermet coating provide excellent wear resistance performance. But when the temperature is higher than 550°C, the WC oxidizes. Therefore, the general operating temperature is lower than 550°C. Cr3C2-NiCr cermet coating is used in the wear condition under the high temperature environment of 550-850°C due to the superior oxidation resistance of chromium carbide that showing good wear resistance. And the powder is commonly used for turbine exhaust components, silencer baffles, thermoforming molds, etc. For repairing and protecting the components which bear high temperatures, hard surface wear, fretting wear, wear and corrosion. The application results of the fluidized bed boiler pipe show that the Cr3C2-NiCr cermet coating with HVOF spray can significantly improve the erosion resistance.

As with WC-Co, Cr3C2-NiCr cermet coating will occurs decarburization during spraying. The degree of decarburization depends on the type of powder and the spraying conditions. The studies have shown that the shedding of carbides from larger particles during the spraying process is the main cause of carbon loss so the spraying process conditions have a certain influence on the bond strength, erosion wear and abrasive wear of the coating.
