Several commonly used spray powder production methods

1) Molten metal atomization method

Normally, liquid metal and alloy powders are made by air atomization with regular ball shape. And when the powder is made by water atomization, both regular ball shape and irregular shape exist. The flow rate of the alloy powder obtained by atomization of such liquid metal and alloy is generally 20s / 50g-50s / 50g.

We often use molten metal atomization method to make Ni60(A) powder, Cobalt powder, Alloy C-276 powder etc...

2) Crushing method

Powders by Crushing method (such as some cermet or ceramic powder is sintered or smelting - solidification broken method) are irregular shape, mostly polygonal. Crushing - ball mill produced irregular shape powder flow is poor, the transmission characteristics is not ideal, and even affect the normal spraying process.

We often use crushing method to make Al2O3, Al2O3-13%Ti02, Al2O3-40TiO2,Cr2O3 powder etc...

3) Agglomerate sintering method

Normally we use the agglomerate sintering method to make the metal ceramic or ceramic powders. These powders are produced by adding an appropriate amount of adhesive to mixed tiny powder and then agglomeration - drying - sintering. This kind of powder is porous spherical powder with good flow ability. In order to improve transport ability of shaped crushing powder, we can grind the ball shape powder to a certain degree of fineness, and then make it easy-transport ball shape powder by agglomerate sintering method. These powders have lower apparent density and lower adhesive strength. Here are commonly used preparation methods: Paddles can be produced by mixing the classified powder, and agglomerated particles can be made by centrifugal atomization - spray - drying method, and then agglomerated sintered powder can be obtained by sintering. Cr3C2-25% Ni + 10% (volume fraction) WS2 composite powders made by this process are anti-friction and anti-abrasion with solid lubrication effect, which can be used for HVOF spraying wear-resistant and anti-friction coating preparation. Different raw materials powder mixed with different proportion by agglomerate sintering method can produce different powders with different components, so it also produce multiple combinations of composite powder, such as metal ceramic powder, ceramic powder, poly oxides ceramic powder, and it is the common technology used for functional coating with composite material powder. Agglomerated Sintered powder is a kind of widely used powder in thermal spraying so far.
