Choose Correct Material for Various Anti-wear Application
Wear is the most common and serious form that can damage material structure, which brings immeasurable lost. In order to deal with this situation, there have been a variety of surface treatment technologies, in which the use of thermal spraying technology is the most extensive.
There are several kinds of coatings used in thermal spraying, and different types of coatings, the main performance is not the same, anti-wear forms are also different. In general, the type of wear is divided into five types. For these five different wear situation, when increasing the wear resistance of material, the thermal spray coating is not the same, the following will be described in detail.
1. Resistance to adhesive wear or scratch: the two surfaces are relatively sliding, debris from one surface to another surface, there will occur adhesive wear or scratch. The typical coating material is cobalt-based tungsten carbide, nickel-chromium/ chromium carbide coating.
2. Resistance of abrasive wear: When hard surface slide on soft surface, and there is wear between the two surfaces, there will be abrasive wear. When the fibers and threads pass through the surface in high-speed, also will be abrasive wear. The suitable typical coating material is cobalt-based alloy, self-fluxing alloy mixed molybdenum, chromium oxide coating.
3. Resistance to micro-vibration wear: repeating loading and unloading will cause cycle stress which makes cracks and large area peel off. A typical coating material is aluminum oxide / TiO2 coating.
4. Gas etching-resistant wear: liquid flow on the surface occur mechanical impact. The typical coating is aluminum bronze coating.
5. Erosion resistance: gas or liquid carrying particles impact surface at high speed, erosion wear occurs. The typical coating material is aluminum oxide / TiO2 coating.
